About Filament and Layer

Free 3D printing calculators, built by someone actually running the printer.

Hi, I'm Courtney

I print on a Bambu Lab P2S. I also run Hook and Gauge (crochet/knitting calculators), Feed and Speed (machining calculators), Flour and Scale (baking calculators), and Hem and Thimble (sewing calculators) — same idea pointed at a different hobby each time: real math that a slicer, a spec sheet, or a recipe won't just hand you, turned into a tool instead of a spreadsheet.

Why this site exists

A lot of 3D printing questions aren't really slicer questions — they're math questions the slicer can't answer for you. Will this part actually fit the thing it's supposed to fit? What's this print going to cost in filament before it's worth starting? What temperature should a material neither the slicer's default profile nor the spool's sparse label really spells out? Those come up constantly, and the answers are usually scattered across forum posts and outdated wikis instead of somewhere you can just plug in your own numbers.

How this site works

Every calculator on Filament and Layer runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type into a field is ever sent anywhere, logged, or seen by me. There's no sign-up because there's nothing to sign up for. More on that in the Privacy Policy.

Got a tool idea?

If there's a piece of 3D printing math you keep having to look up or work out by hand, I'd like to hear about it — that's exactly how every tool on this site gets made. Reach me at [email protected].
