Why these numbers matter
Every one of these tools solves the same basic problem: a 3D printer only does what its settings tell it to, and most of those settings are numbers a slicer can't guess on your behalf. Filament cost depends on your specific spool price and a part's actual weight, not a generic per-gram average. Fit tolerances depend on your printer's real dimensional accuracy, not just a textbook clearance value copied from someone else's machine. None of this is guesswork once you have real numbers to plug in — it's the same math experienced makers do by hand after a few dozen prints, just faster and without a spreadsheet open in another tab.
When to trust a calculator vs. your slicer
Your slicer is always the better source for anything it computes directly from your actual model and settings — its print time and material weight estimates account for your specific geometry, infill pattern, and travel moves in a way a generic formula never will. These tools are most useful earlier than that: deciding whether a design is worth printing at all, whether a part will actually fit its mating piece, or what settings to start from before you've built or sliced anything. Once you have a sliced file in hand, trust its numbers over any general calculator.
