A DIY CoreXY kit means maintenance is part of the deal from day one — the payoff is precision most off-the-shelf printers don't match.

Linear rails are precision components, and they need to be treated that way

Voron's CoreXY design relies on linear rails rather than V-wheels or smooth rods, which is part of what gives it such flat, consistent motion — but rails need the specific lubricant their manufacturer recommends (not just any grease) and periodic cleaning to keep grit and dried filament dust from acting like sandpaper inside the rail. Skipping this doesn't usually fail suddenly; it shows up gradually as increased noise and slightly degraded print quality first.

Klipper and input shaper mean tuning looks different here than on stock-firmware printers

Voron printers run Klipper almost universally, and input shaper (resonance compensation) is a core part of getting clean prints at the speeds these frames are capable of — it needs re-running after any change that could shift the machine's resonance behavior (a new toolhead, added weight, a rebuilt gantry), not just once at initial build. This is a meaningfully different workflow than the largely pre-tuned experience of a stock Bambu or Prusa machine.

The toolhead wiring harness takes real wear over the printer's life

Every wire feeding the hotend, fans, and any toolhead sensors flexes constantly as the toolhead moves, concentrated at the connector ends and any tight bend points — this is a well-known wear item in the Voron community, and a periodic visual check for fraying insulation or a wire that's started to work loose from a connector catches a failure before it happens mid-print rather than after.
