Description of service

Filament and Layer provides free, browser-based calculators and reference charts for 3D printing: material cost, print settings, fit and tolerance, and troubleshooting reference. The tools are provided as-is, without any account, sign-up, or payment required.

Estimates, not guarantees

Every result these calculators produce is an estimate based on typical material properties and common printer behavior, not a measurement of your specific printer, filament batch, or environment. Dimensional accuracy, shrinkage, and strength all vary by printer, material batch, and settings, and no calculator can account for that variation without an actual test print. We make no guarantee that a finished print will match a calculator's output, and recommend test-printing and measuring before committing to a full part or a production run.

No engineering or safety guarantee

Nothing on this site constitutes professional mechanical engineering, structural, or safety advice. Tools involving fit, tolerance, wall thickness, or shrinkage are estimates meant to save you a first guess, not a substitute for testing a printed part under its actual intended load or use. Do not rely on this site alone for parts where failure could cause injury or property damage — test thoroughly and use appropriate engineering judgment or professional review for safety-critical applications.

Intellectual property

The site's design, calculator logic, and written content belong to Filament and Layer. You're welcome to link to any page on this site or reference a calculator's output for your own personal project use; wholesale copying or republishing of the site's content or tools elsewhere is not permitted without permission.
