What's actually in "print cost"

Filament is usually the smallest piece of what a print actually costs once electricity and machine time are counted — a long print on a power-hungry enclosed printer can rack up more in electricity than the plastic itself, especially with a heated chamber or heated bed running for hours. Machine time (depreciation, nozzle wear, occasional bed replacement) is the number most hobbyists skip entirely, which is fine for personal prints but leaves real cost on the table when pricing something to sell.

What this doesn't include

This estimate doesn't account for your own labor (design time, print monitoring, post-processing, packaging) or failed print rates — both matter a lot if you're pricing prints commercially, but they're personal enough numbers that no generic calculator should guess them for you. Add them on top of this subtotal, or fold them into the markup percentage.
