Settings

The thickness of each printed layer, set in your slicer — smaller values print smoother but slower.
How wide each extruded line is, usually close to your nozzle diameter — check your slicer's line width setting.
Your slicer's average print speed setting — check your profile if you're not sure.
Pick High-speed CoreXY for a Bambu Lab or similar fast printer; Standard FDM covers most Bowden/Cartesian machines.

How this estimate works

This treats the filament volume as if it were extruded continuously at a fixed rate (line width × layer height × speed), then adds a flat overhead percentage for travel moves, retractions, and acceleration ramps that a raw flow-rate calculation ignores. It's a genuinely rough estimate — a model with lots of small islands, supports, or fine detail will spend far more time on travel moves than this formula accounts for, while a large simple part will come in closer to the raw number.

Why your slicer's number is always better

A slicer calculates time from your model's actual geometry, layer by layer, including every travel move and acceleration curve specific to your machine's motion settings — it isn't guessing. Use this tool before you've built or sliced a model, to get a ballpark for whether an idea is worth pursuing; once you have a sliced file, use its estimate instead.
